Policy & Terms

1. Introduction

These policies and terms govern the provision of structural engineering services by Offset Engineering. By instructing Offset Engineering, the client agrees to the terms set out below.

2. Scope of Services

Services may include:

  • Structural calculations
  • Structural surveys and inspections
  • Structural reports
  • Temporary works design
  • Residential and commercial structural engineering
  • Site visits and inspections
  • Engineering consultations

3. Quotations and Fees

All quotations are valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated.

Any additional work requested beyond the agreed scope may be subject to additional fees.

Invoices are payable within 7 days unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Offset Engineering reserves the right to suspend work where payments remain outstanding.

4. Client Responsibilities

The client shall:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Provide safe access to the property where required
  • Supply available drawings and relevant documents
  • Inform us of any changes affecting the project
  • Ensure all necessary permissions and consents are in place

5. Site Visits

Site visits are visual inspections only unless otherwise agreed in writing.

No opening-up works, intrusive investigations or specialist testing are included unless specifically stated within the quotation.

Site visits cancelled with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a cancellation charge.

Where an engineer has already travelled to site, the site visit fee may become non-refundable.

6. Structural Reports and Calculations

Reports and calculations are prepared solely for the instructed client and the specific project.

No third party may rely upon our reports or calculations without written permission.

All reports, calculations, drawings and documents remain the intellectual property of Offset Engineering until payment has been received in full.

7. Design Responsibility

Structural designs are based upon the information provided and conditions observed at the time of inspection.

If site conditions differ from those assumed within the design, Offset Engineering must be notified immediately before construction proceeds.

The client is responsible for ensuring that construction works are carried out in accordance with the design.

8. Building Regulations and Approvals

Unless specifically stated, Building Control approval, planning permission and party wall matters remain the responsibility of the client.

Offset Engineering is not responsible for obtaining approvals on behalf of the client unless explicitly agreed in writing.

9. Limitation of Liability

Our liability shall be limited to the value of the fee paid for the services provided unless otherwise required by law.

Offset Engineering shall not be liable for indirect, consequential or economic losses.

We are not liable for works carried out by third-party contractors or builders.

10. Health and Safety

The client is responsible for ensuring safe working conditions and access for site visits.

Offset Engineering will conduct work in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation.

Any known hazards must be disclosed to the engineer prior to the site visit.

11. Confidentiality and Data Protection

All client information is treated as confidential and handled in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Project information may be shared with relevant parties (e.g. Building Control, architects) only where necessary for the provision of services.

12. Complaints

Any complaints should be submitted in writing.

We will investigate and respond within a reasonable period.

13. Cancellations

Cancellations must be communicated as soon as possible.

Work already commenced may be chargeable up to the point of cancellation.

14. Governing Law

These policies and terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

15. Changes to These Terms

Offset Engineering reserves the right to update these policies and terms at any time. Changes will be published on this page.
