Temporary Works Design
Professional temporary works design and engineering for construction projects of all sizes, ensuring safe and compliant temporary structures.
Temporary works are the engineered structures that support a building or excavation during the construction process before the permanent works can fulfil that function. They are a critical component of construction safety and require specialist engineering input. Offset Engineering provides professional temporary works design for a wide range of construction scenarios across the UK.
What Are Temporary Works?
Temporary works are engineered structures used during the construction process to provide support, access or containment. They include propping systems used to support existing structures during alteration, falsework and formwork used to support concrete during casting, excavation support systems such as sheet piling and soldier pile walls, scaffolding systems, and temporary bridges and access structures. Unlike permanent works, temporary works are removed once their purpose is fulfilled.
Regulatory Requirements for Temporary Works
Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, temporary works must be designed by a competent engineer and formally checked before use. BS 5975:2019 provides the code of practice for temporary works procedures and the permissible stress design of falsework. Our temporary works designs are prepared in accordance with these requirements, providing the documentation needed to comply with regulatory obligations and protect the safety of workers and the public.
